But not all animal experiences are created equal. As a mom, I’m always looking for ethical, educational, and truly family-friendly activities - places that care for their animals well and create meaningful experiences for our kids.
In a world full of screens, these are the moments that stick: slowing down, learning gentleness, building confidence, and connecting with nature in a real, tangible way.
These spots aren’t just “things to do with kids in DFW” - they’re memory-makers.
So here it is: your go-to guide for where kids can feed animals in DFW and North Texas – all within a day’s drive from Dallas.
2299 Co Rd 2008, Glen Rose, TX 76043
Hours: Daily 8:30 AM–5:30 PM (seasonal variations possible)
This is hands-down one of the most iconic things to do with kids in DFW. You’ll drive your own car through a wildlife preserve where animals walk right up to your window - yes, including giraffes.
The giraffes can be hand-fed, making it feel like a real safari adventure (without leaving Texas), while the kids can toss pellets to the other animals along the road.
Mom Tip: Buy extra feed bags – you’ll run out faster than you think. Keep windows controlled for little ones.
1462 1st Ave, Dallas, TX 75210
Hours: Wed–Sun 9 AM–4 PM
Such a fun twist on animal feeding – kids can feed and interact with stingrays in a calm, controlled environment. Did you know they’ll actually beg for treats like a puppy? It’s adorable! Hear my kid’s giggles here last time we fed them.
Mom Tip: This is located in Fair Park so pair this visit with the Texas Discovery Gardens and make it an animal feeding day!
1900 W 15th St, Plano, TX 75075
Hours: Thurs–Sat 10 AM–2 PM
Visit the 4-acre historic farmstead and learn about agrarian life during the late 18th-early 19th century. Explore livestock (chickens, goats, sheep, donkey, pigs, and more!) and 15 historic buildings, including the 1891 historic Wilson House.
Tickets are $5/person at the entrance
Wagon rides are $2 per person (10am-12pm)
Chicken feed: $1/bag
Mom Tip: Make sure you keep an eye on their hours, they are only open Thursday-Saturday from 10am – 2pm.

Hours: Fri–Sun 9 AM–4 PM (seasonal)
Feed and pet a capybara! Think zebras, camels, animal encounters AND a splash pad – this feels like a mini safari in North Texas.

Westland Ranch LLC has partnered with the City of Irving to bring you The Animal Connection Experience at Fritz Park. We are a children’s entertainment company that is partnering with the City of Irving to bring an affordable, exciting, animal filled venue for all ages at the newly renovated Fritz Park Farm in Irving, TX.

Cathy’s Critters was founded on the idea that our exotic and farm animals might bring joy and education to children and families across the DFW area the same way that they bring joy and education to our own families in our own backyard.

A great combo outing with nature + animals. Kids can interact with small farm animals while exploring gardens and exhibits.
Mom Tip: Make sure to visit the Butterfly House and Insectarium! Make it a whole day and pair with a visit to the Dallas Children’s Aquarium – located right across the street in Fair Park.
Fort Worth, TX

This is one of those truly special, slower-paced farm experiences that feels personal and intentional. Timberview Farmstead offers hands-on opportunities for kids to feed and interact with animals in a calm, respectful environment.

Hours: Saturdays 10am – 5pm (check seasonal schedule)
Admission is $15 per person for weekend visits. Kids 2 and under are free. Seniors are $10.
Simple, relaxed, and exactly what you want in a laid-back farm day.
Mom Tip: Bring wipes and a change of clothes!
