We were happy to check out 3D Light FX in return for a review. 3D Light FX are available in many different characters at Target.
I picked out the Olaf version, since my kids love "happy Snowman". I was surprised how big Olaf's face was, and he looked super happy!
On the side of the box, it says "Olaf 3D deco light-Safe-cordless battery operated, Cool-never gets hot to touch, Green-uses LED bulbs, Fun-3D crack Sticker included, Awesome-looks great ON or OFF, Easy-simple to install.
On the back of the box-
"Light mounts to a wall on top of a crack sticker (included), making it appear like it has brokem into or smashed through the wall.
Provides a comforting light for infants and children to fall asleep.
Provides enough light for parents to view the infants without turning on additional lighting.
Children can move about the room and take themselves in and out of their beds without turning on additional lighting.
Install in any convenient location where light is useful. (Not restricted to outlet locations).
Easy on/off/30 minute switch.
3 AA batteries not included."
The picture inside of the instruction box says not to put it above a crib, so I'm kind of wondering what age this light is most appropriate for.
The instructions were ok, but not great. I am not the handiest person, So I didn't realize that I would also need a hammer to put in the plastic stability pieces for the screws. I ended up just hanging the light on the screws without the plastic stability pieces.
Underneath my thumb is where the screws sit. The light also takes 3 AA batteries (luckily I had some). The screw/cover for the battery piece was flimsy, I felt.
The switch to turn it off was hard to move, even when the light was in my hands. Plus, I had to turn it over to figure out if it was "ON" or on "Timer". I wished there was something on the side so I could see what I was picking. The switch was rigid yet felt easily breakable.
I turned on the Olaf, while still in my hands, and noticed that it had splotchiness to the face. It looked like there was dirt or clouding in there, but there was no way of cleaning it out.
You can see under his mouth is quite a bit of splotchiness or clouding. In the drawings of the product, it doesn't show this, so I was a bit disappointed.
Attaching the sticker to the wall was pretty easy. Unfortunately, in Arizona, our walls have a lot of texture to them so I had some bumps everywhere, but it came out ok. I liked that it had the place marked where to put the screws! It was a bit hard to get it aligned to get Olaf on, however. Which, will be a problem when it is time to change the batteries.
This picture was taken from about 5 feet away. I'm a bit shorter than where I hung Olaf, and you can see the splotchiness under his nose pretty clearly in this picture. Of course, this is what a kid is going to see. I saw scary faces just by using my imagination a little, so I was disappointed.
My other issue with this is that it is a LED light, which has a blue glow and has been proven in sleep studies to interrupt sleep, and not help or aid it. On the back of the box, it even says that this product helps kids move about their room without turning on lights. As a parent, I want them to go to sleep when they go to bed, not have a really bright light keeping them up. I'm not sure if another type of character (one that has a darker color) would make this not look so bright, or if it is just the LED light in there making it so bright.
When Dimples, my youngest entered the room after I put it up (even though he watched me put it up and even held it before I put it up), he said "ohh, happy snowman scared me." So, I'm not sure if this will be a permanent feature in his room or not.
Turning the switch on and off while it was hanging from the wall was a bit difficult as well, and the stiffness of the switch was pretty rigid as well.
My thoughts on this product-it's ok. The going price for it as for 12/13/2016 is 39.99 but I think it's more of a 29.99 light instead.
